A blazer is only as good as its construction. This is a truth that holds regardless of what is on the surface — regardless of the crystal work, the fabric, the colour, the silhouette. Before any of that matters, the blazer must be built correctly.
Understanding what to look for in a blazer before investing in one is the difference between a piece that holds its authority for years and a piece that looks impressive on the rail and disappoints in wear.
The Shoulder Line
The shoulder line is the most important structural element of any blazer. It must sit exactly at the shoulder — not dropped, not extended, not built up with excess padding. A correctly set shoulder line creates the foundation for the entire silhouette: the way the lapel falls, the way the chest sits, the way the back hangs.
In the Rumi Blazer Set, the structured shoulders are a deliberate construction decision — they create the silhouette that the rest of the blazer is built around. In the Royce Blazer Set, the same principle applies to a different silhouette.
The Lapel and Collar
The lapel — or collar, in a collarless design — must lie flat without pressing or lifting. In a peak lapel design, the points must be symmetrical and sharp. In a collarless design like the Rumi, the V must be clean and consistent. Any irregularity here will be visible every time the blazer is worn.
The Front Closure
Buttons must fasten without pulling the fabric across the chest. Hooks must close without distorting the front line. A closure that creates any tension in the fabric has not been fitted correctly — and no amount of crystal detailing on the surface will correct a poorly fitted front.
Crystal Work Placement
On an embellished blazer, the crystal detailing must be placed at points of structural significance — collar, cuff, lapel — and must be hand-placed at sufficient density to hold over time. Machine-applied stones at lower density will begin to shed within a few wearings. Hand-placed crystal work, set individually, holds.
The Paint It Red blazer set, the Zen Blazer Dress and the Lana Blazer Dress all meet this standard. Examine them against these criteria and the construction is immediately legible.
